back in action

i had a huge scare today when a little blue & my personal email went totally off the map! after investigating this morning, i found out my facebook and twitter passwords were also changed. (my twitter was changed literally right after i posted that my other accounts were taken over.) i thought it had to do with gmail crashing a bazillion 150,000 emails, but since my other accounts were affected it seems i was also hacked. who does that? *sigh*

anyway, the good new is that my blog & facebook are working again, but i am waiting on twitter (still can't login) & my personal email (currently still disabled due to gmail crash) to be up and running again! i completely apologize if you are waiting on a tweet back or an email from me! i have a feeling i owe quite a few twitter responses because i still don't understand it 100%. maybe some day i'll learn. :)

so were any of you affected by the gmail issues? are you back in action?

i hope everyone had a great weekend, i'm still a sickling, so i am off to bed! i worked on a lovely tuesday ten over the weekend so i hope you enjoy that tomorrow. night friends :)

vegas & sick :(

the mister asked me to go to vegas this weekend for a last minute road trip to celebrate his new job (more on that this week!). i thought it was an amazing idea because we both wanted to relax and do something fun.

we we drove left LA around 2p, and everything was going pretty good until 2a when i got severely sick. i'm sure you're thinking alcohol, but unfortunately i hadn't even gotten that far yet! now i can't seem to eat or drink anything without being miserable. talk about horrible timing. :(

i managed to get out of bed earlier so we could visit the shark reef at mandalay bay, but immediately after i was sick again. sooo here i am in vegas supposed to be going out, and instead i'm sad and sick curled up in bed.

thankfully i have an understanding husband, and even though i know he'd prefer to be gambling, instead he's in the room taking care of me.

p.s. last time i stayed at mandalay bay (almost 2 years ago on the dot), i got so sick i ended up in the vegas ER. sooo i am thinking i might be allergic to this place.

yuck! :(

tuesday ten ~ vacation time

over spring break this year, my pawpa (who just celebrated his 80th birthday) is taking the family to punta cana, domincan republic. we've never taken a family vacation like this, and i am seriously so excited!! not only because the place looks beautiful, but because i really can't wait to have all of us together. even though it's just my pawpa's kids, plus their kids... we have twenty people coming!!

i am so excited for the trip, i have already started shopping for things i want to bring. here's ten of the things i have on my mind:

1 ~ swim suits. even though i work for a swim company, i am still planning on buying a couple of basic suits. i never wear matching tops & bottoms because i like mixing and matching, so i need to have options. p.s. i completely blame blue crush for this... those girls always looked so hot with their mixed suits.

2 ~ coverups. unfortunately for me, due to some of my medications, i have put on a little extra weight that i am not totally comfortable with. in order to help me get through my self conscious moments, i plan on wearing pretty coverups. i figure most of them can double as daytime outfits as well *and yes i am self conscious around all my hot cousins & sisters.*

3 ~ sandals. i tend to wear beach flats anyway, but for vacation, i want to pick up a few extras just in case! i need a mix of basic slippers & fancier ones for dinners, etc.

4 ~ beach reads. i haven't been reading as much lately, it's just so hard when i am working! hopefully, i can grab a couple new books to read on the plane & of course on the beach. any suggestions friends??? i just want some good light, easy reads. would love to hear your thoughts!

5 ~ dresses. i might bring a couple shorts, but for the most part i plan on wearing dresses while there. they are much easier to pack, and i won't have to think about it as much. i plan on bringing mostly short ones, but i am definitely hoping to find a few good long ones for nighttime.

6 ~ floppy beach hat. i think they are glamourous, and i have a serious love of hats. i am making it my mission to have at least one that i can wear with lots of things.

7 ~ beach bag(s). i have plenty of beach bags already, but i want to find a new one for vacation that i can wear with everything that will double as my purse. we shall see if i can find the perfect one, if not i want to buy a local bag when we get there.

8 ~ sunglasses. even though i love designer shades... i am super accident prone and i also i tend to lose more sunnies that i like to admit. that being said, thankfully venice beach is full of breakable, losable, and cheap glasses ~ absolutely perfect for my needs!

9 ~ sleepwear. i love little baby dolls & cute nightgowns sooo even though this not a necessity at all... i am still using this as an excuse to get a couple new ones. :)

10 ~ journal. one thing i wish i had brought on our honeymoon was a travel journal. i love writing things down, and i think it will be a nice keepsake after the trip to remember all the little things i might forget in a few years. :) do any of you have travel journal suggestions? i was thinking i wanted a blank one until i heard about "destinations". anyone heard of it?

are you going anywhere for spring break? what's on your packing list?

our valentine's day

ever since i have been with the mister, which by the way will be ten years in september, he's definitely always had the romantic thing down. :) it's funny thinking back to all the sweet things he did for me when i was growing up because i definitely didn't appreciate it like i do now.

this year the valentine's day surprises started out when a bouquet of flowers arrived for me at the office. i don't know any girl who doesn't love getting flowers delivered at work, and this time was no different. aren't they pretty? the tulips falling over is my bad because i had just changed the water, and i didn't have time to fix the actual arrangement. :)

next i got a text message telling me not to eat lunch because he had ordered me food that would be there in an hour. i was totally impressed because i hadn't even figured out who delivered in the area yet! about an hour later, i got another text that the delivery man was outside. when i went to get my food, i was seriously shocked to see the mister standing there. :) i was so completely confused because i didn't realize he was taking me to lunch! it might not seem like an extravagant gesture, but i love that he drove an hour to see me just for a quick meal.

as far as the evening plans, i volunteered to make our valentine's dinner arrangements this year. since i am such a procrastinator and indecisive person sometimes, i was freaking out the day of when we still had nothing set in stone. i had been debating on so many ideas, but finally on my way to the office i decided on a good surprise!

we were going to take an hour and a half private gondola dinner ride through the marina. :) this almost didn't happen because when i called they were totally booked, but i asked to be put on standby, and in the end luckily we got a 6:15p time slot!!

captain larry who booked the gondola for me, was amazing. i ordered dinner, which he picked up so it would be waiting for us when we got there, and it seemed like he went out of his way to really make sure i had everything we needed.

i was a little worried about getting there on time because of traffic, and the mister will tell you i was a mess! i know i made him a little frazzled too. :) i made him put a mask on when i drove him there, thank goodness it was only a couple streets over from our place. even though he knew we were near home, he was completely surprised when we walked down to the boat.

with all the excitement, i do have to admit... we forgot our camera in our car! we took these couple pictures after our ride. :( i was a little sad i didn't get to take a million pictures, but at the same time if i had my camera... i probably wouldn't have just enjoyed myself like i did.

we had good wine, great food, sweet italian music playing, and a very funny gondolier. i can't remember his name, but he absolutely reminded me of captain ron. the mister and i shared quite a few laughs over that.

do you see how full our table is?? they went all out by giving us fruit, cheese and crackers, a rose, candles, fancy dinnerware, and a chocolate rose to make it as cheesy romantic as possible. i truly loved every minute of it!

in the end, the mister said i did good ~ and that my friends was all i was hoping for. :)

enjoy your weekend friends!!

diy ~ framed chalkboard

i gave you a little sneak peak on my super bowl post, but now i can finally give you the full scoop on my latest diy project ~ my framed chalkboard.

even though over time i have seen a million variations of chalkboards, my main inspiration came from the pottery barn dining room below. i loved that they had their wines listed on it, and since we are huge wine-os i thought it would be a perfect use for ours.

i wasn't ready to dedicate an entire wall to chalkboard paint, so i decided to do a smaller one and frame it. the idea was to replace the thrifted mirror currently hanging above our dining table. *when i bought the frame it was a glittery gold, and meant for the bedroom. i hung it above our table for the holidays so i wouldn't have a bare wall. :)*

i had actually been looking for a giant vintage picture frame for a few months, but i could never find one that was worth the asking price at the thrift stores around here. as a last resort, i ended up stopping by michael's and got an amazing deal on this 24 x 36 inch frame.

i also bought the black chalkboard spray paint from michael's, and after checking the can, i decided i would just paint the glass chalkboard.

since we don't have a yard or a garage for all my projects, i do them on our deck. i've definitely left paint on the ground before... but this time was a huge mess!!

after doing my first coat of the black, i noticed it was ALL over the deck. i grabbed a paper towel to see if i could get any off, which was dumb of me because the deck is textured. i ended up getting paper towel flakes all over my wet paint. :( then i tried to wipe it off, which only made it worse, and in the end i basically used the whole can of chalkboard paint just to cover up my mess! i think you can still see spots where the paper towel landed, but i'm sure my friends and family will never say anything! :)

next, i spray painted the frame white. i love the way white contrasts against our dark walls, so any time i have an option to paint things... generally they end up white!

i can't lie... i got white paint everywhere too. i felt bad telling the mister, but he took it surprisingly well. :) i think he is used to my disasters now! i told him i would repaint the deck, so i hope i keep that promise, but maybe i'll buy a rug until then...

here's a shot of the deck post painting ~ it's worse in person. trust me. even izzy can't believe it.

after all was said and done, the framed chalkboard turned out perfect!

and the thrifted mirror i painted ended up on the buffet. it will probably stay there until i finally paint the master bedroom walls. then she will go where she belongs :)

what do you think? do you have a chalkboard wall or framed chalkboard in your house?? if so i want to see! send me pics :)

twelve desserts ~ strawberry pretzel salad

this is dessert #1 ~ which i feel guilty posting considering i haven't even finished posting my twelve meals from last year! *note to self: finish posting those stat!!!* but honestly i wanted to share this one now in case you need a little dessert for tomorrow ~ this one will definitely score you points :)

cook time is only 10 mins, but there are a couple parts that have to sit in the fridge for a while, sooo i would say total time is about 2 hrs.

serving size = 16

ingredients:
~ 1 1/2 cups crushed pretzels
~ 4 1/2 tablespoons white sugar
~ 3/4 cup butter, melted
~ 1 cup white sugar
~ 2 (8 ounce) packages of neufchatel cheese *it's not as bad for you as cream cheese*
~ 1 (8 ounce) container frozen whipped cream *thawed*
~ 1 (6 ounce) package strawberry flavored gelatin
~ 2 cups boiling water
~ 1 (16 ounce) package frozen strawberries

directions:
~ preheat oven to 350 degrees f. mix together pretzels, sugar, and melted butter. press into the bottom of a 9 x 13 inch pan. bake for 10 mins, or until lightly toasted, and then set aside to cool completely.

*i think the recipe could have used more pretzels for the crust, so if you want to adjust your recipe based on that note... go for it. :)*

~ in a medium bowl, beat the sugar and neufchatel cheese until smooth. fold in whipped cream. spread evenly over the cooled crust. refrigerate until set, about 30 minutes.

*try to contain yourself, and don't eat too much of the mixture! it's soo good even on it's own*

~ in a medium bowl, stir together the gelatin mix and boiling water. mix in the frozen strawberries, and stir until thawed. pour over neufchatel & whipped cream mixture in pan. refrigerate until completely chilled, at least 1 hour.

~ serve and enjoy!

probably one of the easiest, and most yummy desserts so you definitely need to try it, and tell me what you think!
