mothers interviewed ~ michelle's mama

today's mothers interview is brought to you by michelle of oh, mishka interviewing her lovely mother diana.

1. what was it like the first time you found out you were pregnant?
um, actually i discovered i was pregnant when i had morning sickness, and tossed my cookies when i saw runny eggs. later in the day when i felt better, i was elated! it was a combination of excitement and fear.

2. what is your favorite memory as a mom?
bedtime was always my favorite time of day. silly baths, books, hugs, prayers, and the final "i love you mommy" of the day.

3. what is your favorite memory with your own mother?
we lived way out in the country, and got to go to town once a month to get groceries. i loved that alone time with my mom. she would tell me about her childhood, and we would be silly together.

4. if you could change anything about how you raised me, would you?
michelle, you have turned out to be a beautiful, confident young woman, so i should probably say no. however, i should have forbidden you to see that one boy who treated you like a piece of dirt, and brought down your self confidence. you worked it out in your own way, but i wish i could have found a way to save you the heartache.

5. what was your proudest moment as a mom?
i was always so proud on sunday mornings. we all went to church and sunday brunch. you were very well behaved (most of the time) and i was even proud when you got the giggles during church. it was a wonderful feeling to have others comment on what a beautiful family i had.

6. in what ways do you think i turned out like you?
michelle, the last time you came to visit, i really noticed how much you remind me of myself at your age. you are happy, love practical jokes, and being silly. of course, we both are bookworms, but that began when you were just a baby. you would memorize an entire book, and "read" it to me before you were old enough to read.

7. what was your biggest fear about becoming a mother?
i'm sure all new mother's feel this way, but i obviously had no experience. what if i didn't know what to do when you were crying? how would i know what was wrong if you were sick and couldn't talk to me?

8. describe what it's like to be a mother in three words?
eternal unconditional love.

9. if i could grant you one wish... what would you wish for?
i wish that our whole family could be close enough together to spend all holidays together. the way we were raised, we all lived within a few hours of each other. we spent sundays together with grandparents, parents, siblings, and other family members. i would love to have us all closer together.

10. is there anything you regret not asking your own mom?
absolutely not. i am blessed to still have my mom, and we are very close. i love her, and firmly believe she is the best mom!!

Noo...don't say you wish everyone was closer. I'm thinking of moving away. Sniff sniff.

What a beautiful family!

I love what she said about spending time in the car with her own Mama-those trips back and forth from school or lessons are some of my most precious times with my mom!

I very much agree with the answer to #8. The older I get, the more I understand how true it is.

Beautiful quote at the end.. it resonates with me.
