just a recap for those just catching up :)
back in march, my grandpa "pawpa" took our entire family on vacation to punta cana, dominican republic to celebrate his 80th birthday, and just because he's amazing. here's the family breakdown of who went: grandparents ~ mawma & pawpa, my mom, three of my sisters ~ holly, karsen, and allyson, plus my almost sister terri :), uncle mike & aunt marci, my cousins ~ colton, chase, and callie, uncle pat & aunt bonnie, my cousins ~ jeremiah, adam, caitlin, and jordin, and the mister & i
with all twenty of us you would think there would be people with me at all times, but on the third day i actually started it out alone. i woke up as soon as the sun rose, grabbed my camera & a book, threw on a bikini, and set off on a beach journey.
i think palm trees just look so graceful with the wind in their hair.
with just the sounds of waves crashing, and a few locals doing beach clean up, i was able to really take in all the beauty around me. leaving only my footprints behind...
literally the ocean is the best thing for me ~ it calms me down, makes me happy, and is just there when i need it whether i'm staring at the endless blue in punta cana... or sitting by in california. :)
first, right when i got to the little shopping center, i ended up being a little more popular than i expected. there really wasn't anyone out besides me, and there were tons of local boys getting their tour boats & shops ready for the day.
a guy who introduced himself as "john", when he found out i was american, begged me repeatedly to visit his shop. as much as i ♥ shopping, i wasn't going to go without the mister. when i nicely declined, about ten times, he finally handed me his card after he wrote his name on it. as soon as he handed it to me, i noticed the name written was felix! apparently he's john when selling to americans, and to everyone else... he's felix. funny boy. he should stick to felix. :)
after meeting my new pal, and passing so many beautiful resorts... i realized i had walked a serious distance, and was a little too far from where i should have been. there was a train that i could get on at the convention center, but i had no idea where to find it. i was relieved when i caught sight of a lone police man come out of the trees, and thought it'd be no big deal to ask him for directions.
super long story short, it was definitely silly of me to approach him being solo. at first the police man didn't speak english at ALL, but after doing a little charades for him, he managed to point me in the right direction. after he graciously provided me with this service, he proceeded to ask for my wedding ring. as in... "i want. give to me." not going to lie, being all alone on a beach with a police man in a foreign country, who was definitely asking for payment for his semi-directions service, was a little nerve racking.
i did some awkward laughing, smiling, and some terrible version of spanish trying to explain that that was simply not going to happen. eventually, i have to believe, thanks to the man upstairs, i was able to walk away with my ring after some lengthy semi-conversation where he told me "i love you". uh PHEW & awkward. let's just say i avoided telling the mister this story for a little longer than he liked. sorry babe!
as you can imagine, i walked back pretty fast. when i finally made it to my resort i was a happy girl. i grabbed a chair on the beach, pulled out my book, and made a new little friend. i thought he would come in handy if anyone else tried to mess with me. :) p.s. the sand had pink in it! ♥
eventually the family made it down to the sand, and we had a great day together :)
this post is long so i won't share too much more. :) but i think that night was the best night for all the cousins. we ate at a fancy buffet together by the pool, saw a "entertaining" performance in the hotel, and went to the casino to play slots, (i got exactly one picture in before security got on to me! boo)
our night ended at the disco. :) really it was amazing... between the fog, the strobe lights, the go-go girls who hated their jobs, and the unlimited free drinks it was tough to make out everything happening around us. my favorite memories: ally had a boy put on a bandana to match hers and they danced the night away shore style, adam literally had the coolest moves i have EVER seen, all together we fist pumped with the best of them, and at the end of the night caitlin and i had learned a new shakira dance that pretty much can be used in any circumstance to give everyone a smile. :)
i still have a few more punta cana posts coming... hope ya'll don't mind!
i know a bunch of you are traveling & have been... anyone got exciting weekend plans?
