My first SLR was a Nikon D40... that was 4yrs ago when my hubby bought it for me as a BDay gift. I still use that camera today and it works like a charm!

I am however looking into upgrading now that I have learned a lot about SLR's over the years. Of course I am a Nikon Fan so I am staying Nikon... Looking into the D3000 and also looking into buying a 300mm lens and a fish-eye lens [I already have a 55mm lens and a 200mm lens].

SO... my vote is Nikon for sure! :)

I have always been a Canon fan. All my point and clicks have been Canons and I recently bought my first SLR and it is also Canon. It is great and I love it!

But it is one of those things, either you like Canon or you like Nikon. You usally end up sticking with one of the other for the rest of your life.

I have a Canon Rebel. I LOVE it! It's for sure more camera then I need, but it allows me to take AMAZING outdoor pictures of my kids!
If you do a lot of indoor photography (not that you would living where you do), I'd get a flash attachment. It's hard to get good light indoors without one!

I think you should go for the Nikon. Nikon is just all things awesome. I just got a Nikon D5000 last month and I lurrrrve it.Make sure to do a little research on cameras and just go with whichever one you want. =)

My brother, a photographer helped me track down a gently used canon 30D on craigslist for $375!!! I hope to get better at taking pictures and will probably get some lenses since I saved so much money on the camera. It's still $1000 on amazon!

Christian has a Canon 7D and a 40D and I have a Rebel XSI. No complains here. Don't forget to save your money for a nice 50mm lens - my favorite.

I want a digital SLR too! I have a Canon 880 that I bring everywhere but am eyeing a Canon 60d.

I think you probably know I'm a Canon girl too! I had a Rebel xsi (which is a fantastic camera) but I upgraded to the new 60D. But you could spend even more $ and go with the 7D. And I also agree with the poster who suggested save $ for a good 50mm. My 50mm/1.4 stays on my camera 95% of the time. Good luck with your decision making! :)

Hi Jenna! I have a Nikon D3000. I like it but I think my next camera will be a Canon.

I have a Canon Rebel XTI. There is still so much I don't know about it but I'm learning. I do know that it shoots better with a flash than my friends Nikon, but that's just what she said I have no experience with either ;)

I've been having the same cravings since Christmas. I just have a regular Canon point and shoot and really want a Canon Rebel. I love taking pictures and if I ever get one, I'll be sure to take a class to get the most use out of it.

I don't have much advice, but I'll be interested in what you get. All my latest camera acquisitions have been film cameras and I need to get a new digital one. Happy shopping!

I have had my canon rebel for 2.5 years! Its pretty basic although I still have no figured it all out yet, I would recommend it for a beginner, but it still takes amazing pictures!

This is my current camera: http://www.amazon.com/Canon-T2i-Digital-3-0-Inch-18-55mm/dp/B0035FZJHQ

And I adore it to pieces. HIGHLY recommended. :]

We have the Canon 50D - it's hubby's deal so I don't know technically much about it but it's been great for me to work on my skills :) These camera pictures are so great!

I' m about to buy a new SLR camera right now. For weeks I' ve been searching and reading every forum about it and I was so confused. Couldn' t decide between Canon EOS 550D and Nikon D90.
Yesterday I ordered Nikon D90. I hope I will be happy with it.

I love the old fashioned cameras in these photos!

Get a Nikon - they seem to be leading in the focus technology at the moment. I'd just figure out your price point and get the best one you can afford! You will love it.

ps I'm a Canon girl but I would switch right now if I didn't have so many lenses!
