be our guest

i am happy to say that very soon, our guests will have a more comfortable & pretty place to sleep when they stay in our guest bedroom.

since moving into our little bungalow we have at least "started" to decorate every room except for that one. right now it's designated as a guest bedroom, the mister's office, and a hodge podge place to store left overs from the mister's college years & my old apartment's knick knacks.

eventually we hope to fill the room with a bambino, but until that time we need to get that room cleaned up so our guests have a nicer place to stay. i do apologize to our past visitors... i know it was aweful.

the inspiration for the makeover came from a couple photos i picked up a few years ago. i really like the idea of a black, white, and grey coastal room. i have brown throughout the house, but the hallway will eventually have a gallery wall with black frames so i am hoping that will sorta tie the rooms together.

the dream & explore images are by the artist deborah van swearingen, and i absolutely love both of the quotes she used by henry david thoreau.

dream: go confidently in the direction of your dreams. live the life you imagine
explore: my life is like a stoll on the beach, as near to the edge as i can go

thankfully our lovely family contributed to the beginning of this makeover with a few christmas gift cards. :) between target and kohl's we got off to a good decorating start.

for the bedding, i wanted all white so it would feel fresh and kind of like a hotel. we totally scored with the home kissing pleat comforter set ~ it was probably half the price of the designer versions at anthropologie & west elm, but exactly what i was looking for. i loved that it was super soft straight out of the bag.

we also picked up a queen sized white sheet set and four new standard pillows at super low prices. after putting everything together i was actually a little jealous that the guest bed is more comfortable than ours. :)

there is still a few more things i want to pick up this week...

i do want to have matching side tables with matching lamps, but the accessories on each will be different. thankfully i won't need to buy any coastal accents because i already have a ton.

i don't think we will be painting the entire room, but i really, really, really want to buy this hudson chalkboard paint and do the entire wall behind the bed.

that way i could get a mini white bucket with a chalk bouquet so our guests could leave us messages or play tic tac toe before bed. :)

i think that might be all we buy for now... eventually i need to get the rest! :)

can't wait to show you how it turns out! hope you are enjoying your weekend. it's been sooo warm in la that i hardly know what to do with myself. well actually that's a lie, i know exactly what to do... we are going to hit the beach!

I love the idea of having a chalk board for people to write messages. Sounds like a great start. Can't wait to see the progress.

I have been looking for a pleated douvet like that for ages- also searching for an affordable one after seing it on Anthro & Brooklyn limestone!

Looking forward to seeing it all come together!

Such a unique take on a coastal decor - luv it! The bedding looks so lux & I really like the idea of black side tables next to it. I'm currently using the same quote by Henry David Thoreau as my e-mail signature. :)

Your "bouquet of chalk" idea is so fun. I'd totally play tic tab toe.
