meet nicole (my blog big sis)

ok this is slightly overdue, but better late than never! :) i would love to introduce you to nicole, my brand new blog big sis! i was matched up with her through after "i do"'s program of linking blogging big sisters with little sisters, so i'm very happy to finally introduce you to her!

you can check out her blog here, and i definitely suggest you head on over!

here's a little smidge i've learned about her so far...

she's almost dirty thirty, she lives in good ol oklahoma city, and she's been married for three years. there's no human babies, but she has three pupcakes and a cat. (obviously she is an animal ♥er.)

for her day job she's a landman! which after she explained it... i think is actually super interesting. :) i've never known anyone in the oil industry before so i can't wait to learn more about it! she also has been selling scentsy for three years ~ here's her site:

in addition furry friends, she loves books and movies. one of the things i am most excited about is the fact that she also really likes cooking. i am hoping that somehow her cooking skills will rub off on me :)

well that's my teaser for her! check out her blog for more deets!

to nicole:
i big fat ♥ you, and so glad that we are going to be sisters & friends. :)

so little time

for all the bloggers out there who have full time jobs, families, and social lives... i don't know how you find time to keep up with regular blogging! :) i obviously am going to need to figure out some time management so a little blue and my blog friends get some of my attention! i have been one busy bee though...

this past week was a whirlwind ~ i had an amazing last day with the mister before i started work again, (i'll do a separate post on it because it deserves extra attention!) and my first three days of work were even better than expected.

the company i work for is down in orange county, so lucky me, i discovered the famous "orange crush" during my drives. but even with the occasional parking lot on the freeway traffic... i didn't seem to mind the time to myself. i was able to have quite a few catch up phone calls with friends and family so i feel like i made good use of my commutes.

yesterday, i went to the newsroom cafe on robertson for lunch with one of my friends from college. we worked together for awhile after school, but now that we don't see each other regularly it's nice when we get the occasional meet up. you always know you have a good friend if you don't see each other for awhile, and when you do you just pick up where you left off. it's like the time away didn't happen :).

today is going to be an exciting sunday full of chores. gag. the mister and i just cleaned out the inside of our cars, we are going to goodwill to do a giant donation (i filled four or five garbage bags with linens and clothes), we are going to target... and maybe home depot. i don't know, i don't know we'll have enough time :) *we put on old school probably 3 times last week for me to fall asleep to it. i need to stop*

well, hopefully i will have a few posts this week... and i hope even more that i can catch up on all my favorite blogs tonight!

hope you're having a great sunday!

new chapter :)

no tuesday ten this week, but guess what... i have some really good news!

i will be starting my new job tomorrow! i'm still going to be working as a fashion merchandiser, but this time for a swimwear company. (i'll also be helping their production team for a little while as well.) yay for a new adventure!

after four and a half years at rock, this is exactly what i needed. i very happy that i will be getting to work with two of my good friends who i have worked with before. one actually knew me when i first moved to california as a barefoot blonde, back when he hired me at quiksilver, i had no idea what i was doing. :) the other friend, i met at rock when i first started, and over the time we worked there (and especially after) she truly became one of my closest friends.

i'll give you guys more deets later... for now i'll leave you with a few shots from their last campaign.

(yes i am jealous she is sitting on an elephant... one day i will too, i just might not look as fabulous)

i hope your week has started out great! :)

words of wednesday

the past couple days have been a little tough for me, thankfully i have the mister and our relationship is stronger than ever. he's been more than amazing when i needed him the most, and i am so lucky to have my favorite amigo to grow old with.

if you don't hear back from me in a few days, don't worry i still love you. i just need to do a little more of the above "words of wednesday" to get back to myself. :)

remembering the great

don't you just love this quote?

i hope everyone is enjoying their monday whether you are working or not! :)

i also hope you are able to take a moment to reflect on the true meaning of today, and honor the memory of the great martin luther king, jr. i truly think doing something small for someone else is a perfect way to show your respect for all of the wonderful work that he did.

it's a beautiful world we live in, and in my mind/heart EVERYONE should be treated equal. i have faith that eventually we will get there. :)

p.s. i've been told, i totally overshadowed my giveaway with my "be our guest" post :), so i wanted to give you a little reminder about my csn $20 gift certificate giveaway!

the giveaway closes this saturday at midnight!

be our guest

i am happy to say that very soon, our guests will have a more comfortable & pretty place to sleep when they stay in our guest bedroom.

since moving into our little bungalow we have at least "started" to decorate every room except for that one. right now it's designated as a guest bedroom, the mister's office, and a hodge podge place to store left overs from the mister's college years & my old apartment's knick knacks.

eventually we hope to fill the room with a bambino, but until that time we need to get that room cleaned up so our guests have a nicer place to stay. i do apologize to our past visitors... i know it was aweful.

the inspiration for the makeover came from a couple photos i picked up a few years ago. i really like the idea of a black, white, and grey coastal room. i have brown throughout the house, but the hallway will eventually have a gallery wall with black frames so i am hoping that will sorta tie the rooms together.

the dream & explore images are by the artist deborah van swearingen, and i absolutely love both of the quotes she used by henry david thoreau.

dream: go confidently in the direction of your dreams. live the life you imagine
explore: my life is like a stoll on the beach, as near to the edge as i can go

thankfully our lovely family contributed to the beginning of this makeover with a few christmas gift cards. :) between target and kohl's we got off to a good decorating start.

for the bedding, i wanted all white so it would feel fresh and kind of like a hotel. we totally scored with the home kissing pleat comforter set ~ it was probably half the price of the designer versions at anthropologie & west elm, but exactly what i was looking for. i loved that it was super soft straight out of the bag.

we also picked up a queen sized white sheet set and four new standard pillows at super low prices. after putting everything together i was actually a little jealous that the guest bed is more comfortable than ours. :)

there is still a few more things i want to pick up this week...

i do want to have matching side tables with matching lamps, but the accessories on each will be different. thankfully i won't need to buy any coastal accents because i already have a ton.

i don't think we will be painting the entire room, but i really, really, really want to buy this hudson chalkboard paint and do the entire wall behind the bed.

that way i could get a mini white bucket with a chalk bouquet so our guests could leave us messages or play tic tac toe before bed. :)

i think that might be all we buy for now... eventually i need to get the rest! :)

can't wait to show you how it turns out! hope you are enjoying your weekend. it's been sooo warm in la that i hardly know what to do with myself. well actually that's a lie, i know exactly what to do... we are going to hit the beach!

crush ~ whimsical poppysmic

right before christmas i won a giveaway hosted by one of my good bloggy friends, chrissy. i love what i got sooo much that i wanted to share her cute shop with you.

first of all she makes these super cute pins ~

when i won (besides a starbucks giftcard) i also got to pick out any pin from her shop. after a whole lot of debating between an initial pin & the mustache, i had her make me a blue "j" like the "a" in the first image. but because she is super sweet, chrissy sent me a stache too!! :) totally love both of them.

she also makes these cute iphone, blackberry, and itouch cases!

and the latest addition to her shop are her knitted headband/earwarmers. from the looks of many of your blogs, these could come in handy during the snowy storms your experiencing! :)

p.s. if you like the knitted headbands, she is hosting a giveaway on her blog until saturday, january 15th & you could win a custom one!

this has been a great week for me so far, and i truly hope yours is going good as well. hopefully, if all goes well i can share some exciting news with you soon!
