tuesday ten ~ gifts that give

since it's that time of year when it's better to give than receive, i put together a list of ten gifts you can buy that will not only be great for the recipient, but also do good by helping others. (i am not being sponsored or paid for promoting these items ~ i really do just think they are great for gifting!) gathering info on all these projects really touched my heart, so i hope you guys are inspired to help. :)

1 ~ water.org: camelbak bottle. ($18.99-$24.99) the bottles are a limited edition design, environmentally friendly, and 100% of the profits (about $10) go directly to support nearly a billion people in the world who lack clean water. the design was created in part by kyle damon (matt damon's brother) and his wife lori. i think the bottle is cute/functional making it a great gift for your athlete friends. i just don't know which color i like best!

2 ~ tom's shoes: glitters. ($54) you can get a pair of the women's glitters in gold, silver, pink, or black. for every pair of toms shoes purchased, they give a pair of new shoes to a child in need. one for one. they have a huge selection for men, women, and youth. i especially like the cute gold ones. :) fancy feet!

3 ~ st.jude's: hand painted ornaments. ($8 or 3 for $21) i love when people attach ornaments to gifts or use them as stocking stuffers. these 100mm hand blown ornaments are painted with artwork by st. jude's patients. 100% of profits, after all related expenses benefit st. jude's children's research hospital.

p.s. i also found these adorable felt ornaments on their website that are only $1 each! such a great price, and again they were created using the artwork of patients. :)

4 ~ the body shop: soft hands kind heart hand cream. ($7) this rich moisturizing lotion came out last year, and i think it's a great item to give your friends and family. 100% of the net proceeds go to, ecpat, to combat and raise awareness of sex trafficking of children and young people. it's sad that this happens all every day and all over the world, so buy a bottle and you can help fight it.

5 ~ unicef united states fund: quilted ceramic tea light holders. ($14.49) i have always been a fan of the work unicef does because there are so many children in need of the things they provide such as medical, nutrition, eduction, emergency relief, etc. i was really happy when i found these beautiful candle holders in their store. each set includes the three colors shown below, and three white tea lights. now you can bring a little glam and color to a friend/family member's decor, and your purchase will directly help unicef. i also suggest checking out the other items they have because there are a ton of lovely gift options at extremely good prices!

6 ~ krochet kids international: a handmade hat. ($24.95-$31.95 for the items shown) i love this project, and i might have to do another post just dedicated to their story. basically each item sold is handmade in uganda. the profits go to sustaining & growing the program of providing education and a stable income to war affected women. inside each hat, there is a label personally signed by the woman who made it. once you learn her name you can go to their website and read the woman's story. (they have items for men & women ~ top 2 hats are unisex!)

7 ~ little sapling toys: personalized wooden block letters. ($30) even though these are considered a toy ~ i think they are quite lovely for adults as well. :) you get 12 blocks with your choice of either standard or braille letters. their philosophy is a commitment to quality toys and a healthy earth. for every toy sold, they donate to have a tree planted through plant trees.org. they use all fsc certified hardwoods, recycled content packaging, and participate in their local green power program!

8 ~ joann hornig for the knot: petal pendent. ($75) this is my favorite piece, but the entire collection is really beautiful. one of the best things about shopping this line is that 100% of the profits will go to a charity that you choose from with 30 major charities as options. obviously this is a great gift for a bride or bridesmaids, but i also think there are a few ladies who aren't involved with a wedding that would like to own one of these. :)

9 ~ project linus: blanket. ($36) i still have my baby blanket, and while i don't sleep with it every night, it definitely is a security thing for me. a percentage from the sale of this blanket goes to project linus ~ their mission is provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gift of new, handmade blankets and afghans. isn't this is such a good idea?

10 ~ pb teen: giving pillows. ($29 ~ currently on sale for $25). since i am a beach bum, three of the below styles are of course a little coastal :) but they do have quite a few other options as well. for each pillow sold $5 is donated to the charity noted for that item. the top two pillows below benefit the surfer rider foundation, and the bottom two benefit the student conservation association.

i spent a lot of time researching items and the organizations providing them so that i could ensure the money is going where it should. i know there are a million companies that donate to different charities and foundations ~ are there any that you support? if so please leave a link in my comments section so others can check them out!

I love the tea light holders and though I've never been a fan of Tom's shoes (although I love what they do) the glitter ones are really tempting!

Hi Jenna,

Love this list. I just got myself some TOMS and I love them. also if you go to the pasadena flea market, i would definitely set a budget. I took out 100 bucks and was surprised how little I spent. It was more like going to a big museum for me.

Ohhh, love this! You just gave me a few ideas for holiday gifts!! A friend of mine told me about the organization, Falling Whistles, when I told her how much I loved her whistle necklace. It turns out the proceeds of this necklace go to rehabilitating war-affected children in the Congo war...the website is amazing and gives a voice to these children's stories.
